Screen size would be not
as big as in a full-size laptop, but quite enough for most of everyday
uses, including high-end text processing and mid-range 3D games. At
XGA
resolution which is 1024 x 768 pixels on active matrix display (also known as
TFT) you will have very
decent crispness and number of colors, which of course depends yet
on your processor speed. Active matrix is the best kind of display that
is available in mass production right now.
Thanks to the latest technology, likely,
you won't have a processor slower than 1MHz (we are talking here
about new, mid-2005 laptop computers). Buying an old, second hand laptop
of the same class, be prepare to have lesser power in terms of speed and
supported screen resolutions. Approximately one half of all laptop
computers sold are the ones from this middle range category.
Sometimes older laptops will have a
swappable drives. One internal drive bay is used to swap between
CD-ROM, or say, floppy drive. You will need physically remove the drive
from the bay, and install another one. Usually for such operation, the
laptop should be turned off. You may find this annoying, especially if
you know that there are a full size laptops, which also referred as a
thin and light laptops.
Don't take this review
as a gospel-truth though, there is always something in between those
described categories...
